Rogers & Cowan conducted a comprehensive, large-scale theatrical release campaign for Gotti that resulted in an extraordinarily profitable opening for the film in a limited market with challenging circumstances.

Gotti, starring John Travolta, is a film that follows crime boss John Gotti as he rises to become the head of the Gambino Crime Family. We were tasked with conducting the film’s theatrical release campaign, which included offline and online marketing.

We Implemented a strategic publicity campaign, including the Cannes Film Festival and a multi-city PA tour, a star-studded premiere, three viral social campaigns, and offline and online marketing that drove deep consumer interest.

Our Approach

Gotti is a Smashing Success

We hosted multiple activations and press opportunities at the Cannes Film Festival that focused on Gotti and creating positive press on John. The festival turned out to be the perfect opportunity to launch John Travolta on to social media. As part of our strategy, we reached out to John’s friends to welcome him to social with a personalized meme created in-house. Moreover, a video of Travolta and 50 Cent dancing at the premiere after-party became a viral moment, and was covered by outlets such as Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, and more. We targeted media buy to regions where the 500-theater release would impact, in addition to focusing on our main targets in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Florida, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, Boston, Phoenix, and Miami.

Talent participated in a multi-city PA tour and in the week leading up to the release date, John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Kevin Connolly and John Gotti Jr. all participated in a successful New York City press tour. All told, our efforts delivered, even in challenging circumstances, making Gotti’s release incredible success for our client and even bringing the film to #1 on demand in the VOD marketplace.
